I believe stories are
medicine for the soul.
They are a vital aspect of how society is shaped, because they give us the ability to feel compassion for each other and find meaning in our lives. Stories can provide much-needed escape, but also make positive, real-world impacts.
As a welfare kid with an absent dad, I always felt like an underdog. But as I got older I came to understand the privileges I do carry. So I enjoy collaborating with, and upholding stories from, equity-seeking creators.
I believe stories from marginalized perspectives need to be nurtured and shared, to create an equitable and sustainable world.
I'm a human, cis-male, White,
able-bodied, neuro-normative
dad, husband, son, brother,
friend and colleague.
My ancestry includes Ukrainian, Irish and Scottish, and I was born on the unceded / occupied territory of the Ktuanxa, Syilx and Sinixt peoples, in what is currently called Nelson, British Columbia.
The child of unmarried hippies, I was almost born in a VW van. I lived on welfare with my mom until I was five, then we moved to Treaty Six territory currently called Edmonton, Alberta, where I met my new / step-dad and step-brother. I was in an Arts Core school until I was ten (loved it), then we moved to an acreage outside of Edmonton. During high school I was in an extra-curricular theatre troupe (hilarious), acted in and directed the high school play (won a bunch of awards), and took time off school to act in professional plays (I was hooked).
I attended the University of Alberta's 3-year Conservatory Acting Program, also taking scriptwriting and self-creation, and graduated with Honors and the Golden Key. Since then I have written, performed, and produced numerous projects for the stage and screen, and have graduated with distinction from the advanced level of UCLA's TV Writing program. See my acting CV and writing / producing CV.
I am married, we have a child, and we live on the unceded / occupied territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tseil-Waututh people in what is currently called Vancouver, Canada. I'm also kinda weirdly / happily private, especially for a guy with a website. But there ya go :)
